As a child, I spent many summers as a camper at the Ambler YMCA Whispering Woods Day Camp. It was there that I learned how to shoot a bow and arrow, cook outside, skip rocks across a creek and become a strong swimmer. To this day I remember riding the bus from “the Y” to the Fort Washington State Park to spend the summer day, playing in the sun. It was a safe and fun way to spend my summers as a child.
At Electro Soft, we believe in being a strong presence our local community. Specifically, being a partner by investing in the youth. Two weeks ago, we were a sponsor for the Thomas E. Weintraub Memorial “Kids to Camp” Abington, Ambler and Hatboro YMCAs Golf Outing. The purpose of the outing is to raise money for local families with an economic hardship, so that their children can attend summer camp.
Summer camps in our local area range from $250 per week to upwards of $3500 per child for an 8 week session! Let’s not forget that many camps start at 9AM and end as early as 3PM, sometimes even noon! If early or aftercare is needed, parents oftentimes have to pay the additional cost for those services, making summer camp cost prohibitive for many families. The YMCA offers financial support to those needing assistance, making summer camp a reality for children. Fundraisers such as “Kids to Camp” plays an important role in meeting that financial need.
As a community partner, we believe in investing in our neighbors. We believe that all children deserve a supervised and safe summer experience, regardless of their socio-economic situation. That is why we were enthusiastic partners with the “Kids to Camp” fundraiser and look forward to partnering again in the future.
